I’ll get around to summer sketching once the rain stops – so much for SW France blue skies – near permanent rain!! So…here’s a small painting in oil on sealed & primed MDF – 20x20cm. Trying to be bold with brush & use a lot of paint – I have chased the oil paint around on this surface for what feels like forever, it’s stopped raining so I’m off outside & will give up painting (permanently…..well maybe until tomorrow)

I can relate to chasing the paint around Karen – do experiment with a more absorbent ground & maybe thicker paint? Having said that it looks like you’re creating a lovely sumptuous feeling in the paint, the colours are not getting muddy and the brushstrokes read very well. I particularly like how you’ve handled the foreground. Don’t worry about chasing blue skies, I have a liking for darker clouds and more subtle colours in the sky – we’ve all seen a lot of blue skies (in paintings anyway!)
