A murky morning from down the valley. I tried acrylics for this one while I figure out how to paint oil on slippery panel ( the gesso is drying so I’ll try painting oil on it very soon). It was easy to get the misty effect with acrylic paint and I’d love to find out how to do this with oils – more playtime! In comparison to oil, acrylics seem rather flat & lifeless – I know I’m just beginning but can you get texture & life into acrylic paint?

Thanks. Louise..I’ll play with acrylics on teh days when i want to throw oil paintings out the window!! Im using Lefranc Bourgeois acrylic gesso…still a bit slippery for me. I read somewhere that Lascaux gesso is more absorbent so I’ll try that. I wonder if I can stick thick paper onto sealed & primed MDF, then paint on top….I still love painting on paper.

A very nice feeling of mistiness and a good range of greens Karen. What kind of gesso are you using by the way? I completely agree about acrylic paint – I keep trying but I do find it tends to look very flat when it dries. You can get gloss medium which helps a bit, or frame behind glass
