I would agree that the first version reads better and hangs together better as a whole
Good to read your comments on these two versions Karen. In my experience tidying up isn’t usually a good idea – the danger is that you’re painting in a different, more left-brain mode and that you lose any freshness or vitality in the painting. Such a useful realisation as well that it’s easy to end up painting an ‘acceptable’, more conventional painting which might please other people but sometimes doesn’t really please us as artists.
