Thanks both very useful comments. Interesting that Louise calls it a drawing. It is mainly oil paint on canvas.
I completely agree Toby, a very nice drawing. I like the texture of the oil stick & how the colours are picked up throughout the drawing, that really helps to tie everything together
Great energy here and interesting , spontaneous mark making too, I like the way the picture suggests rather than depicts, but still captures the sense of a place (which is a nature reserve/conservation area). The colour palette works very well and there is an implied sense of perspective, with darker values below leading through to the lighter sky background, punctuated by the dark band at the inferred horizon. The spots of red are significant and work well with the warm earth colours. The use of the green oil stick suggests vegetation but, again, leaves the details to the imagination of the viewer. Do post some more work.
