A first ‘big’ oil painting. It’s roughly 60cm sq on paper, only allowed myself to use big brushes. It felt like a very big blank space to fill and used far more paint than I had mixed & ready. What a learning curve this was, moving from terrified at the huge expanse of blankness, tentatively dabbing on paint, to using an entire arm, then the rest of the body joining §in. No thinking involved in this once it got going. It’s interesting how the paint & the process of paint going onto paper draws you in, until that moment when you find yourself back standing in front of the painting rather than in it…..I’m going to be hooked on this very soon…..

Well done Karen! That’s a good size & I can see you’ve really got into the right-brain state. There’s lots of energy and expression in the brushmarks – I particularly like the sky. It’s good to learn how much paint you need! – and good to have had the experience of working on this scale.
