Unfortunately as I was about to start using the coloured pencils I found in my father’s studio – probably 50 years old it started to rain. I decided my watercolour already had plenty of water in it and headed off for a coffee.

Hi Juli, well done for getting outside, that can’t have been easy – and what a lovely group of lively and fresh sketches. Even if you’re not there for long the experience of being outside really helps to give a sense of what it’s like. If you’re tempted to try again it’ll be worth thinking about how to solve the logistical problems of handling all your materials. I tend to sit on the ground (on a fold-up camping mat) and have everything around me, but that won’t be comfortable for everyone of course. You could experiment with a low camping seat and have your materials around you, or maybe a higher seat with a light tray to have on your lap. Sometimes there’s a flattish log which can work to sit on and have your materials on it too.
