The woods near a wetland not too far from my house; a couple snow-covered rocks. Watercolor sketch with charcoal and a smoosh of acrylic ink(the ink after I got home). The snow was really too wet to sit on, even with my little pad, so I practiced trying to keep everything together and dry while standing up.

Painted many years ago on small wood panel 12x 8″. I am trying to replicate it but on a much larger canvas and using a palette knife. Sadly my attempts have lost the freshness of the original. I am inclined to look at it for a good while and then have a go at reproducing it without looking at the original again. I have also forgotten where in Venice I made this oil sketch. Perhaps sommeone migh trecognise the place.

Trying something different. As a printmaker not a painter I’ve been trying to loosen up and experiment across a wide range of mediums, hopefully to improve and expand my work. It’s been really interesting and thought provoking so far. Water mixable oils on board – after a trip to London. A work in progress, set aside and returned to several times. Still ongoing.
