Early morning plein air sketch, willow charcoal sticks, some white conte chalk highlights. A3 Stonehenge Kraft paper. I love drawing with charcoal, it’s so ‘hands on’ and tactile! Using toned paper gives me another dimension!

I don’t usually sketch when i’m painting, i usually go straight into the painting, so this made a change. Here is a tonal sketch made with marker pen and water. I also did a dip pen drawing, followed by an oil painting.
