Storm at Birling Gap oil on gessoed heavyweight Khadi paper Louise Balaam - Monthly Landscape Painting Storm at Birling Gap oil on gessoed heavyweight Khadi paper Skills Posted on April 19, 2024 ← I know, I know, another one after I said I’d stop! I love the colours & feel of this one, I like the sky & the foreground but I think I’ve messed up the middle part – the distance & horizon. It seems to lack contrast & definition & has lost a bit of something somewhere along the process. Maybe I’ve just overdone the ‘finger blending” ? I’ll sit with it for a while before deciding what to do that’s best for it – unless it’s terminal. No matter if it is, tomorrow is another day to play.. After Joan Eardley, I really enjoyed this exercise, it’s a long time since I used pastels, I love the energy they encourage →

Louise Balaam on April 21, 2024 at 4:41 pm Lovely moody feeling to this one Richard. Birling Gap is one of my favourite places! There’s a nice feeling of the height of the Downs – watch out for making the horizon too solid though, it can work really well to break through it in places. Log in to Reply
