This is a studio oil painting 3ft x 2ft which i began by sketching in the new forest on an artist residency.
I have to admit to using a photo, to remind me of my time in the forest.
It is SO difficult to work from just memories alone, even though I spend many hours in forests and woodlands, and can remember the smells and noises of the wildlife, I am getting better at re creating the energy on a windy day, now I need to persevere with painting from just memories, smells, noises and feelings.

Thank you both
I completely understand Julian, working from sketches and memories with this kind of subject is difficult- I think you’d have to aim for a much more impressionistic painting. This has a nice feeling of light and air & the composition is working well I think.
Thank you Karen. I loved your floral ‘Judy Buxton’. The textures were so good and appropriate. I must look her up. One of my fav artists at present is Kyle Buckland. 🙏
I agree, I’ve just had a spot of bother with going back into a painting & trying to remember the moment . And goign back into it I forgot to be looser & freer & got a bit stuck. Your woodland has a lovely lightness to it- a feeling of springtime
