This oil painting 90 x 90 cm has been turned to the wall for many months . I have now looked at it again in light of Louise’s latest lesson on analysing your own work. I see a focal point of lightest light and darkest dark and wonder if there is sufficient tonal variation at that point and in the painting generally .. I like the atmosphere and the brush marks but is it all a bit bland? Any comments would be appreciated

This has a lovely feeling of connection between the sky and the land Elizabeth. Not bland at all! If you’re working into it you could consider dropping the horizon a bit? The dark cloud area is dramatic but maybe needs to be a bit lighter, you’d still have the contrast but not quite so strong. A darker area in the foreground would help reinforce the sense of space – but not too big or too dark, you don’t want to spoil the very nice airy atmosphere. Sorry hope that’s not too prescriptive! – it’s a really nice painting & a good size too, you’ve handled the scale very confidently
Your Thank you. I will look him up right away
Your comment great energy reminds me of James Tatum work, have a look at his website
Oops – sorry – impatience is my excuse
I posted a comment earlier but it seems ot have wondered off. Anyway – I really like the soft gentle light . There’s a good contrast between light & dark to lead the eye to those lovely pools of reflected light. Hmmm I really do need more practice at this!
I really like the gentle soft flow of this one…and the colours. I like the contrast between the dark & teh light sky, the eye follows the light down to the lovely reflective pools of light. Hmm I need a lot more practice at this!!
