Yesterday’s stormy sky….torrents of rain, palest of pearly turquoise, sparkly sunshine, bruised clouds, white fluff, startling pools of light…..all on a drive home from local town so I had to stop & sketch. This is the painting of that moment – 64x48cm oil on thick oil paper. I’m really not sure how to begin to evaluate this one…there are moments when I think it’s quite bold , & the next I think it’s too conservative with marks & the brush. Sometimes I think the colours are wonderful, the next I think it’s a mess!

Thanks Louise! Hmmm yes re foregrounds….Im never sure what to do with them. `and I dream that one day what I paint will be as poetic as words!!

Thanks Rachel – its is interesting what you say about computer colours because this is far less dramatic in ‘real life’ hanging on the wall!

I would say it’s pretty bold Karen, and a good size too. I really like the big marks going all the way across the surface, it gives a lovely expansive feel. The sky is working particularly well – the foreground maybe lacks a bit of structure. Great descriptions of the weather btw!
