First of two sketches at Mannington Estate

This is in my own style, of a Cornish crabber, sailing vessel spotted at Littlehampton last summer. I don’t know why, but it just grabbed me. This is in oils, and is in my exhibition ‘The call of the Sea’ opening next week. I hope you like it.

Here is my homage to Camile Corot, an artist I admire immensely, this is from his view over Florence, Italy. I painted it in oils but left out the ‘monk like characters. I have stood at the same spot in the Boboli gardens, a few years ago and enjoyed the view.

I admire the tonality of Whistler’s paintings. Attempting it myself with watercolour and ink I realise just how hard it is to achieve. But fun trying.

Weathercote cave by John Piper. Two quick sketches in coloured chalks. I allowed myself five minutes per sketch and chose one bit of cartridge paper and one bit of card from old packaging The latter was better!
