Château de Blois, Loire Valley c.1828–30 . My interpretation of a Turner painting – Some challenging detail in this piece, Turner Grey paper from Ruscombe Mill in France, watercolour and some body colour (gouache) as in Turner’s original work in Tate Britain.

Here’s another attempt at a Turner, Shore and Sky, Sunset c1835 watercolour over pencil.
I don’t yet have the finesse that Turner had with watercolour, which I spent c15 years practicing with. I havent used it for the last 4 years, so i’m enjoying trying to remember how to work with them again.

One of my favourite artists is Joan Michell. This is my attempt in watercolour to capture the intensity of her bold gestural strokes in 4 panels “Edrita Fried”. I love her affinity with Monet. Wish I could have seen the recent exhibition

Here’s another inspired by HBBrabazon, Mont Blanc sunset, Chamonix. He used pastel, charcoal and w/c. I used marker pen and w/c and white gouche. I’m always amazed at how the viewer can see the image clearly, despite so few marks being used.

Here is my watercolour attempt at a favourite artist of mine, Hercules Brabazon Brabazon, who travelled round europe and north Africa with a retinue of followers, this is after his ‘Eritrea’ watercolour. Mine is rather heavy handed.
